Brrh, journal entry 134. My first expedition has taken an exciting but unfortunate twist. Oh! Hello, there! Thank the Earth King someone else is here! My name is Wen, and I am in need of some assistance. You see I'm an archaeologist researching well- uh relics. I know that's a tad bit vague but, um, I-I uh haven't chosen a specialty yet... Anyway, I'm researching relics lost to time and among the many relics I seek is the Golden Lion-Turtle statue which was stolen hundreds of years ago. Which is why I'm here! For this is no ordinary ice cave. No, no, it is in fact a labyrinthine hideout designed by the very same statue thieves! I could go on, BUT time is of the essence! My hired entourage turned out to be a crew of pirates after the labyrinth's treasure! If they get their hands on those relics, the vast historical knowledge they contain will be lost again to time or worse, broken down for coin! Please, you must recover these relics so I can return them to the university for study! I will reward you greatly!

[Narration: The group takes note of several paths along the labyrinth.]
| Wen
They're up in the tunnels ahead. I-I am a scholar, not a fighter, so I shall wait here. Please be careful! The place is a labyrinth, so you won't be able to see what's coming!
The group progresses to Precarious Pathway 1.
[Narration: The group emerges from the tunnel into an unfamiliar place that has two pathways leading deeper into the unknown.]
The group continues to advances through various Precarious Pathways, fighting pirates.
The group progresses to Precarious Pathway 3, where a battle erupts.
| Pirate
Oh no. Looks like you folks ran into a dead end. Heh heh heh. [After being defeated.] Retreat! Shoot! Uh, which way did we come from!? Ugh, let's just go this way...
The group progresses to Precarious Pathway 4, where another battle erupts.
| Pirate
Let's skip to the part where y'all scream. No? Well, alright then. Get 'em. [After being defeated.] You're gonna regret this when the captain finds out!
[Narration: Cautiously, the group pushes through the mysterious and winding halls of of the icy cavern.]
The group progresses to Precarious Pathway 5, where another battle erupts.
| Pirate
[After being defeated.] You may have won this round, but you and that archaeologist are gonna-- Wait! Aha! I said it! Finally!
| Proud Pirate
I'm very proud of you, mate. I knew you could do it. Anyway, time to run.
[Narration: The party tries to ignore the ominous feeling of the path ahead and presses on.]
The group progresses to Precarious Pathway 6, encountering more pirates.
| Dramatic Pirate
Avast! I doth proclaim! And prepare thy selves for the wrath of mine fowl-feathered beasts, yee scathy sea dogs!
| Pirate
Ugh, ignore him, he's new. Owl-wolves, attack!
The pirates are defeated.

| Pirate
Enough! If you're going to pretend to die, do it quickly!
The group keeps advancing. [Narration: The voyagers venture valiantly into the void.]
After clearing the various passageways, the group can access a series of rooms.
When the group enters a chamber with various half-frozen beds and pelts. [Narration: The group arrives at a peaceful looking place where people once rested.]
When the group enters a chamber with books and other objects, the "Chamber of Antiquity". [Narration: The passageway leads to a room with an ancient collection of small relics and old books. The group discovers that this chamber was an archive for maps, star charts, codes, bending techniques, and recorded heists. The groups starts searching through the room for relics.]
When the group enters a large, but dark chamber, the "Chamber of Enlightenment". [Narration: After navigating the passageway the group arrives at a scary room with minimal visibility. The room is so dark that it's difficult to make out what's in there. It occurs to the group that stumbling around in the darkness inside a potentially boobytrapped room is not a wise idea. They should find a way to light the room before exploring further.] One adventurer uses firebending, revealing that the large room is mostly empty aside of a massive metal statue and a few relics. [Narration: The lanterns, torches, and candles around the chamber have been lit thanks to the help of a firebender. It appears that this chamber was once a place of meditation. There are relics around this room that the archaeologist might find valuable. The group begins gathering relics from the room.]
The group eventually progresses to the "Chamber of Fortune". [Narration: Successful, the party exits the passageway into an ornate room full of relics... and pirates!]
| Kiwaq
Ha! Well, well, so that gullible archaeologist, they got some help, huh? No matter. I already found my birthright-- the Golden Lion-Turtle. All the wealth in this hideout was acquired by my ancestors. Earned by their blades, not by blind obedience to pompous lords and ladies. Why toil away in the dirt, living under the tyranny of laws when you could just take whatever you want from whoever you want? Hmm... but what to do with all of you, I wonder? To be honest, I'm glad you're here. It's been too easy so far. Despite the convenience of dealing with rich weaklings and fools, I actually relish a challenge to earn my take.
The adventurers start battling Kiwaq and her fellow pirates.
| Kiwaq
How 'bout this, if you put up a good fight, I'll let you join my crew? What do say? No? Oh well, your loss.
The adventurers defeat Kiwaq and the pirates.
| Pirate
Captain! You! You'll pay for this, we'll be back!
[Narration: The Golden Lion-Turtle Statue has been recovered, time to bring it back to Wen. They'll certainly be grateful.]
The adventurers return to the Frosty Gullet.
| Wen
You're alive! I-I mean hurray you're back! I never doubted you for a second. Aha! I was right! The fabled statue was here! The Golden Lion-Turtle, the lost treasure of the Four Nations. You know there used to be an international ceremony performed with this statue, before it was stolen by those thieves. Oh! So these thieves were those pirates' ancestors? Fascinating, there must be so much history to study here, maybe that could be my research topic. Thank you dearly and sincerely. Here, it is my great honor and pleasure to give you this as the reward.
Wen gives the adventurers a reward, and then points out the Chamber of Fortune.
| Wen
Uh-- Unfortunately, those pirates are relentless. They're going to keep coming back here to plunder what remains. It'll be quite the inconvenience but nothing you folks can't handle! I need your group to secure whatever relics you can. And of course I will reward you for what you find. I highly recommend venturing into any unexplored tunnels. Who knows what ancient discoveries or relics you may yet uncover!
