The mission begins at the Stonecraft Overpass.
| Aang
*Yawn* Hey Katara, whatcha doing?
| Katara
Good morning. I'm just practicing my waterbending while Sokka is away foraging. I want to get better at freezing water.
| Aang
That's great! Then we could have shaved ice whenever we want!
| Katara
Hahaha! Thanks.
| Sokka
Guys, come quick! I found someone! He's injured.
| Katara
[Concerned.] What happened? Who is he?
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
I'm a soldier for the Earth Kingdom army and our garrison is under attack by the Fire Nation. I was supposed to go get help and return, but I was ambushed. By the time, I find anyone it'll already be too late for the garrison.
| Sokka
I think we should help fight against the Fire Nation.
| Sokka
I think we should help too, but we need to be careful.
| Sokka
Aang is the Avatar. He is going to have to face the Fire Nation like this eventually.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
The Avatar... Huh, there may be some hope yet...
| Aang
[Happily.] Well, if no one is against us helping, let's do it then.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
You can find the garrison that way, follow the smoke... and thank you.
As Team Avatar approaches the fortress of Shen Guan, a discussion between the local Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom commanders is already under way at its walls.
| Masaru
Captain Boqin, surrender now! You have no chance against my forces. It's only a matter of time till we take this fortress, and then Omashu!
| Boqin
Ha! The only reason you're trying to get us to surrender is because you know you can't take the Garrison.
| Masaru
You are gravely mistaken.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
[In panic.] Captain Boqin, sir, the surrounding camps are under siege.
| Masaru
Surrender, fool, before your troops pay the price for your arrogance!
| Boqin
Ergh!
[Narration: Aang soars over with his glider and lands before Captain Boqin.]
| Boqin
What do you think you're doing, kid?!
| Aang
I-I'm here to help.
| Boqin
Get out of here. This is no place for a child.
| Aang
But-
| Boqin
Leave!
[Narration: Aang glides back to Sokka and Katara, and explains the siatuation.]
| Aang
[Dejected.] The captain is too stubborn to let us help.
| Sokka
Hmm. That may be so, but who says we need his permission to help?
| Katara
That's right. We could just help the other camps first and prove to the Captain that we can aid them.
| Aang
Sounds like a good plan. Let's do it!
The group can now venture to four different locations around the fortress.
| Sokka
[Team Avatar approaches Carrier's Channel.] Looks like a lot of Fire Nation soldiers on the other side of the ravine guarding a bunch of boxes.
| Katara
Those boxes are probably full of supplies that could help the Earth Kingdom. [ They come closer, and discover a tundra tank.] Whoa! What is that big metal thing? It looks dangerous.
| Sokka
Whatever it is, we should keep our distance until we find a way to deal with it.
| Aang
Perhaps a solution lies elsewhere?
The group moves to Prospector's Path.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
What?! How did you kids get out here?
| Aang
Uhh... Well, we rode my flying bison, Appa, and--
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Flying bison? Is this a trick?
| Aang
Yes- No- I-I mean--
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
They're spies! Attack!
The Earth Kingdom soldiers attack Team Avatar.
| Aang
Oh, monkey feathers. I think I messed up.
| Sokka
Ya think?!
Team Avatar defeats the Earth Kingdom soldiers.
| Katara
Um... I think we should work on our introductions in the future.
| Sokka
Ya *huff* think? *huff*
| Katara
[Angrily.] Not helpful, Sokka!
| Aang
[Addressing the soldier.] Hey, sorry about that, but you guys did try to attack us.
| Earth kingdom Soldier
... Fair point. So you're not a spy?
| Aang
Nope.
| Earth kingdom Soldier
And you rode a flying bison here?
| Aang
Yep.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Huh... interesting. So, can you guys defeat the Fire Nation trops up at the mines? We would do it ourselves, but well... we need to recover.
| Aang
I guess we could do that. Sorry again.
| Sokka
[As Team Avatar approaches the coal mine.] Shush. Get down. Fire Nation up ahead. Hmm... I wonder what they're doing?
| Spear Soldier
[Addressing his officer nearby.] Hey, boss. Sorry! I'm new here. What are we doing again?
| Masked Soldier
*sigh* We're gathering coal to help supply the siege weapon over at Bedrock Bluff.
| Sokka
Huh, convenient.
| Masked Soldier
WHO SAID THAT? EVERYONE ATTACK WHOEVER IS BEHIND THAT BUSH!
| Sokka
Oh, c'mon.
A battle begins.
| Katara
[Addressing Sokka.] Why did you open your big mouth?
| Katara
... My mouth isn't that big!
Team Avatar defeats the Fire Nation soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
Retreat!
| Masked Soldier
Hey! That's not your call to make, new guy!
| Spear Soldier
Sorry, sir.
| Masked Soldier
... Alright. Well... Everyone, RETREAT!
| Sokka
Let's have a look around and see if we can find anything helpful against the Fire Nation. [As he searches.] ...battle plans... secret documents... anything like that could be really useful.
| Aang
What about this key thing?
| Katara
Doesn't look like a normal key for a door.
| Sokka
Let's keep it. At the very least, a missing key should cause a inconvience for the Fire Nation.
The group moves to Bedrock Buff.
[Narration: As Team avatar gets closer to the Fire Nation siege weapon, they hear shouting.]
| Masked Soldier
How could you lose the Release Key?!
| Spear Soldier
I-I don't know, sir. I swear I had it when I was over at the coal mine.
| Masked Soldier
I should roast you like a komodo sausage for your incompetence!
[Narration: Sokka's stomach loudly grumbles.]
| Spear Soldier
Oh! Did you hear that, sir? Could be something that needs your immediate attention!
The Fire Nation troops attack Team Avatar.
| Masked Soldier
Found ya! Get them!
| Sokka
Why have you betrayed me, stomach!?
Team Avatar defeats the Fire Nation soldiers.
| Masked Soldier
Ergh! Retreat!
| Sokka
Hmm... That siege weapon gives me an idea, but how to operate it, I wonder? They mentioned a key earlier... I think the key... goes here!
[Narration: The Metal Key then clinks into place.]
| Sokka
Aha! I'm a genius!
| Aang
Great job, Sokka!
| Katara
Okay, genius... Care to explain your brilliant plan?
| Sokka
Soon, soon. All will be revealed. Help me adjust and aim this thing.
| Katara
Why do I have a bad feeling about this?
| Sokka
Trust me. And please help. This thing is tough to move.
As Team Avatar adjusts the siege weapon, it shoots a projectile at Carrier's Channel, destroying the local bridge and the tundra tank on it.
| Katara
Ah! Why did you fire it? We weren't ready?!
| Sokka
Okay... To be fair, launching it early was an accident, but... behold my brilliance!
| Aang
Oh, wow! You hit that big metal thing!
| Sokka
Thank you, thank--
| Aang
Oh, and the bridge... the bridge is gone.
| Sokka
Oh... Oops.
Team Avatar moves to Rumblewood Thicket.
| Sokka
Earth Kingdom soldiers! Okay team, let me handle the talking.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Who are you?! Answer the question!
| Sokka
Well, first off I'm a warrior, and--
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
ENEMY WARRIORS! ATTACK!
The Earth Kingdom soldiers attack Team Avatar.
| Katara
Real smooth, Sokka!
| Sokka
Not helping!
Team Avatar defeats the Earth Kingdom soldiers.
| Katara
Sorry to have to do that. Are you guys alright?
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Why would you care?
| Sokka
Oh for-- We're not your enemioes... or Fire Nation!
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Oh really? So why are you trying to attack the infirmary?
| Aang
That's terrible! Why would we attack injured soldiers?
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
I don't know. Why would you?
| Sokka
Okay, I'm done talking to these guys. Let's go.
Team Avatar moves on, arriving at the infirmary.
| Katara
[Addressing Sokka.] This time, let me talk.
| Sokka
Fine. Just be careful and don't get too close. Maybe try shouting from a distance?
| Katara
I said, I got it. [Addressing the soldiers at the infirmary.] HELLO! WE'RE HERE TO HELP! WE'RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR INJURED!
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
[Addressing his comrades.] What is she saying? Something about "taking care of our injured"?
| Earth Kingdom Corporal
[Addressing his comrades.] How cruel! I can't believe these Fire Nation monsters would target our injured!
The Earth Kingdom troops attack Team Avatar.
| Katara
No, no! I don't mean 'take care of them' that way. I meant more like, 'help them and their suffering.'
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
End their suffering!? You merciless monsters!
| Katara
Wait, wait! And! I said "And"! I don't want to end their suffering!
| Sokka
Okay Katara, you literally just said that you don't want to end their suffering... Maybe you should just stop talking.
| Katara
I-I didn't mean that, I-I meant-- uh, forget it.
Team Avatar defeats the Earth Kingdom troops.
| Katara
We should probably bring these guys to the infirmary.
| Aang
Why does everyone assume we're spies for the Fire Nation? I mean... we don't even look like Fire Nation.
| Sokka
Exactly. Which is perfect cover for a spy!
| Katara
[Addressing the infirmary personnel.] Don't attack! We're just bringing some soldiers who need help.
| Infirmary Guard
We've got more injured soldiers out here. I need some staff to help bring them in. [Addressing Team Avatar.] Alright, what happened? Why are you kids here?
| Aang
Well, ummm... First off, I'm the Avatar, and we're just trying to help.
| Infirmary Guard
Really? Well, "Avatar", this infirmary is in desperate need of Medical Supplies. My troops and I are busy protecting the injured here, so unless you can miraculously heal our wounded then you aren't much help.
| Aang
I can get those supplies, and I really am the Avatar.
| Infirmary Guard
Sure, sure, "Avatar".
Team Avatar returns to the now-destroyed bridge at Carrier's Channel.
| Sokka
Aww, man, I really messed this bridge up.
| Aang
Sooo... What now?
| Katara
Hmm... I might have a solution.
[Narration: Katara begins to create an ice bridge with waterbending to get across the ravine.]
| Katara
Alright. I think that should do it! Now stay close to me as we cross in case anything happens on the ice.
Having moved across the ice bridge, Team Avatar approaches the Supply Station.
| Spear Soldier
[Addressing his officer.] Sire, the tank has just been destroyed.
| Masked Soldier
I can see that. How on earth did that happen? I mean, it's a tank!
| Spear Soldier
Well, sir. It seems they used our own trebuchet against us.
| Masked Soldier
WHAT?! This is an absolute mockery of the Fire Nation.
| Sokka
And there's more mockery where that came from.
A battle begins.
| Aang
[Awkwardly addressing the Fire Nation soldiers.] Yeah, uh, "Tanks" for the supplies...
| Sokka
You have much to learn, young punster.
Team Avatar defeats the Fire Nation soldiers. [Narration: The Fire Nation soldiers retreat from the Supply Station.]
| Aang
Okay, let's see if we can find anything helpful. Hey, I think I found something.
| Sokka
What is it?
| Aang
Well, it looks like Medical Supplies?
| Katara
They are! Great job, Aang!
Team Avatar returns to the infirmary. [Narration: The Fire Nation soldiers retreat from the Supply Station.]
| Infirmary Guard
[Shocked, addressing Team Avatar.] You got the Medical Supplies? B-But how is this possible?
| Aang
Because I'm the Avatar!
| Sokka
And I used the Fire Nation's siege weapon against them.
| Katara
Also the bridge was destroyed, but I made an ice bridge to replace it... ...for now. But you might need to construct a new one once it melts.
| Infirmary Guard
I-I can't believe this, I uh, thank you... Thank you so much. [A messager arrives.] I just got a message from Captain Boqin, to send any soldiers that are able back to the battle at the Garrison.
| Sokka
This is bad. If the Captain is in such need of soldiers, the situation at the Garrison is probably worse than we thought.
| Katara
[Addressing the Infirmary Guard.] We want to help, but Captain Boqin keeps refusing to let us assist.
| Infirmary Guard
I know the Captain. He can be stubborn, but he'll listen if I talk to him. [Addressing Aang.] Please, Avatar. You and your comrades are our only hope of beating Captain Masaru. Will you join us?
| Aang
Well, uh... I-I won't let you down.
| Sokka
Yeah, don't worry. We got this!
Team Avatar and the soldiers from the infirmary intervene at the battle for the garrison.
| Boqin
[Addressing Team Avatar.] Alright, follow my lead, even if you truly are the Avatar. This is a battlefield!
| Aang
[Determined.] Don't worry about me, sir.
| Sokka
For the Water Tribe!
| Katara
Everyone stick together!
After overcoming many Fire Nation soldiers, the group faces Captain Masaru and his retinue.
| Masaru
[Angrily.] This fight is a farce! Our victory is inevitable! [Calmly.] Why can't you see that?
| Boqin
All I see is another Fire Nation fanatic unable to comprehend his own defeat.
| Masaru
[Angrily.] You are a fool, Boqin! You only prolong the suffering of your people!
| Boqin
Enough of this nonsense, Masaru. Either you surrender or fight, you coward.
| Masaru
[Calmly.] If you will not end this cycle, then it's my duty to end it for you.
After a fierce clash, Boqin and Team Avatar defeat Masaru and his troops.
| Masaru
This isn't over, Boqin! I shall return! Soldiers. Retreat!
| Boqin
[Addressing Team Avatar.] I can't believe I'm saying this to a bunch of kids, but... thank you. I underestimated you, just like our enemies did to us! Ugh, despicable. You lot clearly aren't Earth Kingdom, and yet you defended us. For that you have my utmost respect and gratitude.
| Katara
We're just glad we could help.
| Sokka
You know, you're a pretty nice guy when you're not telling us to scram.
| Boqin
Ha, "pretty nice". Don't go around telling anyone. I don't want people thinking I've gone soft! Hahaha!
| Aang
Umm... Actually... Do you think things will be alright here if we left? We were planning on going to Omashu and I'm pretty tired of all this fighting.
| Boqin
Of course, I've got this all handled here and I've already sent a messenger to Omashu for reinforcements. Safe travels.
| Katara
[Addressing her friends.] I know it took a while, but I'm glad we were able to help out.
| Sokka
Also, we're war heroes now, so that's a win.
| Aang
I'm not sure if we should be calling ourselves war heroes just yet.
| Sokka
Fine, fine. But can we be war heroes after we end the war?
| Katara
Haha, maybe. We'll see.
| Aang
I just can't wait for you guys to see Omashu. It's one of my favorite places in the Earth Kingdom. Oh, and the people there are super friendly.
End of the mission.
